Of all the afflictions and addictions how do we help those in need of help? Do we tell them what they are doing is wrong, pushing them to stop? If they disagree to, we show them tough love. Putting them out on the street or out of our lives until they straighten up. The Bible tells us to help those in need so how do we help. The answer is simple we point them to Jesus Christ.

There are many different afflictions most can be solved by bring the gospel to them starting there relationships with God trough Jesus Christ. I’m going to give examples of afflictions. What causes each affliction with, in my opinion, the best way to help.

First off yes this is an affliction NOT a part of your personality. How did this affliction start what caused it or causes it? Turning away from God and not acknowledging him to be God.

Romans 1:20-30

20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

23 And changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and four-footed beasts, and creeping things.

24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonor their own bodies between themselves:

25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:

27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet.

28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things, which are not convenient;

29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,

30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,

How to help

So how do we help these afflicted people? These are someone’s sons and daughters. At one point heard the gospel, how do we minister to these people. From what we know of the Bible their sin is they heard the gospel and turned there back on God and do not fear (respect) God for being God.

We urge them to repent, remind them of hell. Try to tech them how to have relationship with God. Teach them also to fear (respect) God. Try to determine the best approach if it best to use law or grace to get trough to them. Pray for them before you talk to them. Before you preach to them talk with them get to know them.

Guide them to Christ trough friendship and understanding. Helping them understand God or trying to.

Drinking and Drugs

A lot of people get addicted/afflicted by drinking and or drugs. Why is it so addictive? Is it the feeling you get from drinking/drugs make you feel numb. Make it so you can’t feel the empty space in you own life. Make it so you can be happy this is what attracts people to these things.

What is this empty space that we feel. That we have to escape from to be happy, to feel normal, to feel liked, or loved. Understand drinking /drugs don’t fulfill this feeling they numb it, they make it so you can ignore it.

How to help

No matter what that empty space is, it can be filled by God. Lead and teach people how to have a relationship with God trough Jesus Christ. As long as they daily communicate with God. Their need to be numb will disappear their void will be filled.

The easiest thing to say is that it nothing but lust. But why are people attracted to porn. On the surface it could be just lust or cause it is appealing to the eye if it is just that then they would stop at a point. But what about those people that are addicted to it?

Are they just extra full of lust or is it deeper. Are people addicted to porn trying to understand love? Are they trying to understand what love is about? In the mean time porn twisting and perverting there understanding of love. Or is it a desire to have intimate relationship?

How to help

Teach them of Gods love teach them to have a relationship with God, teach them the difference between intimacy and sex. Or better yet introduce them to God and let him teach them the difference. Leading them to a relationship with God trough Jesus Christ would ease their addiction again filling the void.

Yes you can be addicted to people we all have loved ones that despite our best efforts, are mean cruel or just bad for us physically mentally emotionally or spiritually. Yet we can’t break away from them, we love them and want them to change. We don’t want to leave them.

How to help

Dealing with people that you are addicted to is difficult. Because you want to be there for them but know that together it is not good for one or both of you. Encourage them to get or maintain their relationship with God if they do that stay close and you yourself go to Jesus.

It would be better to have a relationship with them at a distance it will be easier to encourage them to pursue a relationship with God. Interacting at a distance limiting your relationship with them to friendship.

Look at it this way if you love them you want them to be happy you want them to pursue God. Ask yourself when I’m close are they going to pursue God. Are they going to be happy? Sometimes the best thing we can do for someone is stand and point to Christ.

Who hasn’t trying to win load of money the easy way. Why is gambling addictive, with the appeal that you could spend this much, but get this much back. That all your financial problem would be solved just like that. Looking to make our dreams come true to provide for our families.

How to help

Yet again leading them to Jesus will stop their addiction. How you ask? Well to be in a relationship with God is to trust him, to provide for you, and for your family. To rely on him for everything making you dreams come true. Or better yet to follow his plan for your life.

What I’m Saying

Yes what I’m trying to say is that you can beat any addiction simple by having a relationship with God trough Jesus Christ. No matter the situation or the addiction or affliction. A relationship with Jesus can help you out of it. We can do all things through Christ. He gives us the strength freely; the best way to gain that strength is to just have a relationship with him.
